Man vänjer sig.

Bugger context-less string translation. How the hell am I supposed to translate a standalone segment that just contains the word "the"???

UPDATE:
To clarify, we have received updates of a half-a-million-word project (service manuals for a... well, a vehicle) that we translated last summer. The updated parts have been extracted to one file for translation; unfortunately, the segmentation is thoroughly messed up.
This approach will save time, a lot of time even, compared to going through the files one by one, but it will still take longer than we had hoped, and I don't envy the final reviewer.

Bugger. My iPod photo just froze in mid-playback, and now it's just showing this icon:



I don't even hear the hard drive in it. I suspect there's something badly wrong here. Which means I'll have to dig out the receipt as soon as I get home tonight and go back to the shop to get it repaired/replaced. Goddamn. Well, at least there wasn't anything irreplaceable on the HD.

And presto! All of a sudden it works again, but I'm buggered if I know how and why. Best to keep the receipt handy just in case.

It's that time of the year again.

We're more understaffed and overworked than ever, I just received a 3500-word project that's supposed to go in tomorrow at 11:00 — only we had planned for a submit time of Monday noon, as Apple had originally promised — we have another 6000 words for Monday morning, and I have hardly had any sleep tonight, nor will I this weekend. I might be able to get hold of a freelance translator, but they can't be expected to be on call on a Saturday afternoon; if I don't, I will work late tonight. Very late.

In one week's time, it won't be my problem anymore, but until then I will have to handle it. At least I can speak my mind about it now — what are they going to do, fire me?

Aftonbladet går från klarhet till klarhet.

Det kan tilläggas att jag är (passiv) medlem i Republikanska föreningen. Gissa vad jag tycker om Aftonbladets insinuationer, medvetna eller inte, om att det RF förbereder är en statskupp och inte en kampanj för opinionsbildning? Med tanke på vilken språklig och journalistisk kvalitet Aftonbladet håller kan jag förvisso tänka mig att skribenten drar till med de saftigaste ord han hittar utan tanke på vad de egentligen betyder – till exempel "Kungahuset ska störtas av en hemlig sammansvärjning av politiker och pr-konsulter" – och att det således är ren oskicklighet istället för medveten smutskastning som ligger bakom; båda alternativen är lika tänkbara med tanke på tidningen.

Så nu är jag kuppmakare, för det står i Aftonbladet och de ljuger ju aldrig. Tagen eder i akt!
