Another year over, and a new one just begun. It's getting to be a habit.

So, a short (at least by my standards) summary of 2009:
2009 )
So, to summarise: it's been a pretty rough year with deaths and layoffs and things like that, but it could have been much, much worse.

Best wishes for 2010, everyone, and thanks for making 2009 a decent year against all odds!

Idag skickade jag följande feedback till Samsungs svenska kundtjänst:
Bästa Samsung! )

A mail to Samsung's Swedish customer support, complaining about the horrible linguistic quality of the documentation for the DVD-HD870 DVD player.

Spectacular misreading of the day: "vegemite on toast" > "vengeance on toast". I know revenge is a dish best served cold, but as a sandwich spread?

Telenor sent me a new pet yesterday: a Sony Ericsson W810i. I don't expect ever to find much use for the Walkman functionality or even the FM radio, but the rest of the phone seems like a worthy replacement for my aging T610.

I just got home from Avenue Q. Absolutely brilliant production, well translated and played; after a while I hardly even noticed the puppeteers. An evening well spent, even if I didn't get the company I had hoped for.
And the Bad Idea Bears were just adorable. And just a tiny bit creepy.

My Tungsten T3 is not well. This morning on the tube, after having had it in the charge/sync cradle all night, I was met by the tap calibration screen, meaning it's been wiped back to factory preset state, and a low battery warning. The battery is obviously on its last legs; it's only good for about 20-30 minutes use now. When I have the time I'm going to investigate whether I can get a replacement battery for a reasonable price and find good instructions for taking the thing apart. There's no way in hell I'm going in there without a good map.

*sigh* And we got on so well. I like my T3, but if I can't save it somehow I may have to look into getting a newer model, probably a T|X. I rather like the thought of non-volatile RAM, and Wi-Fi seems like a useful thing too.

On a brighter note, I got my laptop back yesterday. Not only have they fixed the keyboard, but they've also replaced the screen (which I didn't ask them to, but which was a good idea seeing how the keys wear on it).

Late yesterday afternoon I went to Macoteket in Sundbyberg to pick up the following:

• A Mac mini (1.42GHz, 80GB, 512MB, combo drive)
• A LaCie mini 250GB external FireWire hard disk
• A Belkin FireWire/USB 2.0 hub
AppleCare Protection Plan for Mac mini
iWork '05

It works very well with my KVM switch, so I won't have to sacrifice another desk for this pet but can use the monitor, keyboard and mouse I also use for the desktop PC. I spent last night until 2.30 migrating stuff onto it from the old Tangerine Rev D iMac and the hard disk of my late, lamented iBook, and then I just need to put all the files in the right place.

Having a modern Mac again feels like coming home. There's no place like ~, you know.

Bugger. My iPod photo just froze in mid-playback, and now it's just showing this icon:

I don't even hear the hard drive in it. I suspect there's something badly wrong here. Which means I'll have to dig out the receipt as soon as I get home tonight and go back to the shop to get it repaired/replaced. Goddamn. Well, at least there wasn't anything irreplaceable on the HD.

And presto! All of a sudden it works again, but I'm buggered if I know how and why. Best to keep the receipt handy just in case.
