When I started in this business five years ago, I never imagined I would have to translate lists of this kind:

<species name="Camelid" id="21">
    <breed value="Alpaca" />
    <breed value="Bactrian" />
    <breed value="Dromedary" />
    <breed value="Llama" />
</species>

This is a list of animals for a veterinary X-ray scanner from $MUMBLE_COMPANY. I've spent most of today searching for Swedish names for cat breeds, cows, sheep, birds, swine, goats, reptiles, rabbits, ferrets, rodents, turtles, frogs and camelids. It's fun to do something different... The goats and the sheep were the trickiest. It's not enough finding out what a "fainting goat" is; you must also find out what the Swedish name is, if it has one in the first place (it doesn't, as far as I could tell), which is tricky if it isn't a separate species. A fire-bellied toad has a scientific name — Bombina bombina — which helps you find its Swedish name (klockgroda), but you don't have that help with different breeds of one species. (And don't get me started on the wascally wabbits.)

Do I beat you? Today I got a completely serious offer to go abroad for about one month to sing to a computer. The singing is to be done by me. In correct tune. Or pitch. Or whatever the fancy music term is. No, they have never heard me singing.

I'm very tempted, just for the fanzine-article-writing-value of it.

You would, however, be blacklisted in the business everafter.

Not the fanzine business, and that is clearly more important.

I would, wouldn't I?
In an attack of sanity, I decided that this would be an evil thing to do to a poor, defenseless computer. And to poor and unfortunately not so defenseless co-workers.
