Those who know me also know that there are things I love passionately, like music, tea, and chocolate. I have occasionally said that chocolate is better than love, because it has the same biochemical effects while avoiding some of the more troublesome aspects of it — I've had unrequited love, but never unrequited chocolate, I would say. Well, not any more...
On Friday afternoon, to comfort myself after a confused day where I wasn't feeling too well, I bought a bar of dark chocolate from the BRIS box (a little carton with different snacks and candies which you can buy at a cheap price, for the benefit of a child welfare organisation). Finest Bulgarian chocolate, made by Stančo Kolev EOOD under the brand name Century. Some comfort it was. When I was a student living on next to no money at all, I used to buy the cheapest cooking chocolate I could find, the one that doesn't contain enough cocoa solids or cocoa butter to be called "chocolate" according to EU food laws but is simply called "Block", and that's what this reminds me of: not as much a chocolate bar as a vegetable-fat bar. Instead of cheering me up, it made me sad.
I was still pissed off on Saturday and had to go out to buy some real chocolate to erase the taste memory of that abomination.
