I saw it mentioned somewhere that "chocolate is best served melted on a member of the opposite sex". Now, the way to this man's heart may be paved with chocolate, but as a card-carrying skeptic I don't know whether to believe this claim. Granted, the melting point of chocolate is lower than body temperature (which is why chocolate melts in the mouth, obviously), so if the temperature is carefully controlled there is little risk of burns, but will this way of serving it affect the taste? Won't it be incredibly messy? (Obviously, for the chocolate to melt in the first place it will need to be served directly on the skin; clothes are too good insulation.)

I am not aware of any research in this area, nor do I have many opportunities to conduct such research myself; besides, I see some practical issues with designing a proper double-blind test protocol for it. Until I have seen indications to the contrary, I will keep eating my chocolate the old-fashioned way.

[UPDATE:

1. Yes, it will probably work on a member of the same sex as well. Haven't tried that either.
2. How many test subjects will volunteer when they hear "Hello, I would like to eat chocolate off your naked skin as part of a research project"?]

Probably not so much the taste that's affected as the whole situation of things. Melted chocolate does taste different, can't say if better or worse, and I haven't tried it that way. *adds to list of stuff to do*

Juh.
