Davros narrowly escapes an assassination attempt by the Thals, continues his research in genetics and enters the political arena.
Carolyn Jones (not the same actor who played Morticia Addams in the TV series) is brilliant as Davros' mother, the cold-hearted, scheming Lady Calcula; unmellowed by age, but rather more dangerous as the years pass, she is a razor-sharp politician who will sacrifice anything or anyone for her own purposes. ("He shouldn't have gotten in the way. Of the tank, I mean.") Her first reaction when the Thals try to assassinate Davros is not fear for her son's life, but pride that he is now the most important person on the planet.
