18. Gary Hopkins: I, Davros: Part 1 — Innocence (audio drama, 2006)
The framing story: Davros has been captured by the Daleks and is being taken back to Skaro for trial — as in "evaluation", not "court proceedings" — and reminisces about his personal history. In this first part, back in the days when some parts of Skaro were still relatively untouched by poison, we meet him as a 15-year-old boy — not to mention his ruthlessly scheming mother Calcula, who is prepared to walk over bodies to further her son's career as a scientist, whether he wants it or not...
The science fiction element is still very weak in the first part; the Daleks are many years in the future. First and foremost, this is a political drama in a mildly science fictional environment. Also, although young Davros is not completely corrupt, neither is he a nice and innocent child; on the contrary, he alternates between sullen and callous.
