Seen on May 17 with darnia. (I'm far behind on my book and film reports, I know...)

A film with a fantastic sense of wonder, if a bit lighter on the shades of grey than Miyazaki's later works. Admittedly the air pirates turn out to be basically good people/comic relief, but the army is a bunch of militaristic morons with no mitigating traits, and the villain is a coldly vicious bastard prepared to kill to get his.

I loved it, and if I had seen it when it was new it would have coloured my imagination forever.
