The second volume of Patrick Nielsen Hayden's (

pnh) anthology series of original science fiction and fantasy. 13 stories, some better than others, as always.My favourites:
• Robert Charles Wilson: Divided by Infinity
• Raphael Carter: Congenital Agenesis of Gender Ideation
• David Langford: A Game of Consequences
• Ted Chiang: Story of Your Life
Unsurprisingly, the two stories dealing with linguistics were among my favourites. The others range from "slightly less than brilliant" to "filler material". I rather liked the Gormenghast-esque tone in Angélica Gorodischer's "The End of a Dynasty, or, The Natural History of Ferrets", which is an excerpt from a larger work (translated from Spanish by Ursula K LeGuin).
