So Maria is defending her thesis on Friday, and I have been asked to play records at the party on Friday night. I have now solved the problem of only having one laptop (I haven't had the time to reanimate my iBook yet, and I can no longer borrow a PowerBook from LocalEyes — or rather, I probably could, but only as a very last resort): my department has one HP OmniBook XE3 that I can borrow overnight. I've finally managed to make it talk to the Acer via an Ethernet cable, so they can share the music library. Now I only need to stuff the Acer full of music, and then it's party time!
This time I don't even need to bring a mixer: GH Nation has a fully-fledged sound system with DJ equipment, probably even turntables (not that I'm bringing a lot of vinyl; that's too damn heavy to take on the train), but at least a place to plug in two RCA cables.
Rock'n'roll, 50s-80s pop, disco, ska, big band jazz, trance, chanson, schlager, synthpop, some EBM... Hm, have I missed something?
