Went to see Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith for free today, staged by APC. I am not sure that "not nearly as bad as I thought it would be" is a positive judgement. ("Better than Episode I" is not; I believe the term is "damning with faint praise".)

I read a review somewhere that said "good movie until they started talking", and to an extent I agree with that. The romantic parts between Anakin and Padmé were... cringeworthy. Whatever Lucas is, a dialogue writer he is not. And flashing light sabres and explosions and whatnot are rather heavy on the eyes in the long run. Still, it had some cool moments. For example, George Lucas is rather good at world-building; I rather enjoyed seeing the early precursors of later technology (such as the Jedi fighters, the direct ancestors of the TIE fighters). If it had only had a better script or at least some decent dialogue, it might even have been a quite good piece of space opera.

Still, I'd rather watch a good Tom Baker-era Doctor Who adventure. A special effects budget of sixpence an episode, not-too-brilliant actors, but some really nice plots and the occasional gem of a line...
